The Scare

Hello there!
This past week was filled with a little bit of drama, and I know that alot of our loving family and friends were very concerned about the situation, so I would just like to settle some stomachs..

On Monday I realized that I was leaking some amniotic fluid, so I went to my doctor's office and took a test to see if that was in fact what the problem was. Sure enough, the test came back positive for amniotic fluid (for those of you who don't know what this is, it is the fluid that surrounds the baby to nourish and protect him). So off to the hospital Nate and I went.
After waiting around for an hour or so, 2 tests were given - the first one was to indicate whether or not I was for sure leaking a.f. (I'm starting the abbreviating right about now!), and the second was to test whether or not my water had broke. Well both of the tests came back positive. With these results, my doctor admitted me to the maternity ward of the hospital until baby Jacob arrived. I was so sad to hear this news! All I could think was that I wouldn't be the one to tuck in my baby Will :( However, it was the best thing for the baby Jacob, considering that he would have been 7 weeks too early, and was only 4 1/2 pounds. They did bring in a perinatologist (a doctor who specializes in any kind of fetus complications) to check my a.f. levels, and he said that the baby had plenty of a.f. in there with him.
The next morning, my doctor repeated the same 2 tests from the day before. The first still came back positive for leaking amniotic fluid, and later on Tuesday I found out that the second test came back negative. After leaving me hooked up to monitors and IV's ALL day, I was finally discharged from the hospital, and was put on bed rest. I was so ecstatic to go home!!
I went for a check up on Thursday afternoon, and an ultrasound was performed to check the a.f. levels of the baby.. The level had gone up over 60% in just a few days!! The doctor said that whatever leak I had resealed itself. Because of this, my doctor let me off of bed rest, yet advising me to take it easy.

So here I am! I'm very excited that I am no longer on bed rest, and I am extremely happy to be at home with my 2 favorite guys. I plan on taking it easy, and hopefully Mr. Jacob Nathaniel can cook for at least another 3-4 weeks!

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers...
Much love,
Sher
