11/6/08 - What a day!
We got to the hospital at 7:30 am, got induced with some pitocin at 8:35, started contracting within 30 minutes, and got stuck - my body didn't really progress from the 3 centimeters that I was dilated, so at 11:10 they broke my water. I was planning on getting an epidural once I could start feeling the pain of the contractions, but my nurse came in at 11:30 and told us that starting at noon the anethesiologist would be busy. So I got my epidural at 11:50, a bit sooner than I would have liked, but that's ok!
So after I got my epidural, the nurse checked me, and I was only at 4 centimeters. At this point I started to get a tad upset b/c the progression of labor was taking longer than I would have expected. Good thing we had Grandma Carol, Auntie Sarah, Big brother Will, and my best friends Steph and Joce with us to keep us some company!!
At around 2:00 my cervix was checked, and I was at 4-5 centimeters. Then a bit after 3:30 we were told I was at 7 centimeters, and around 4:15 we found out we were at a 9. By 4:30 the nurse told us we were finally 10 centimeters dilated! She said we had about 30 minutes of pushing ahead of us.
At 4:45 I started pushing, and by 5:00 the nurse had me stop pushing b/c baby was about to come out, and the doctor was stuck in traffic! The doctor walked in at about 5:10, I pushed twice, and at 5:12 pm out came Jacob :) 7 pounds and 19.5 inches of him, and he was sooo beautiful (and perfect)!!!
It was more than an amazing experience, and we are so happy to be a family of 4 now. Congrats to all the new grandparents!
