Eyes Wide Open

Good morning!
As of today Jacob is one day short of being 3 weeks old... the past 3 weeks have just flown by!! He is over 20.5 inches long now, and is 8.5 pounds. He loves to smile, and he is currently the boss of our household. He even has big brother Will wrapped around his tiny little fingers!
Here are some pictures to hold everyone over for now, I'll add some more real soon...

Have a great (and safe) Thanksgiving weekend!!!

Smooches,
Sher

Welcome Jacob Nathaniel Maier!

11/6/08 - What a day!

We got to the hospital at 7:30 am, got induced with some pitocin at 8:35, started contracting within 30 minutes, and got stuck - my body didn't really progress from the 3 centimeters that I was dilated, so at 11:10 they broke my water. I was planning on getting an epidural once I could start feeling the pain of the contractions, but my nurse came in at 11:30 and told us that starting at noon the anethesiologist would be busy. So I got my epidural at 11:50, a bit sooner than I would have liked, but that's ok!
So after I got my epidural, the nurse checked me, and I was only at 4 centimeters. At this point I started to get a tad upset b/c the progression of labor was taking longer than I would have expected. Good thing we had Grandma Carol, Auntie Sarah, Big brother Will, and my best friends Steph and Joce with us to keep us some company!!
At around 2:00 my cervix was checked, and I was at 4-5 centimeters. Then a bit after 3:30 we were told I was at 7 centimeters, and around 4:15 we found out we were at a 9. By 4:30 the nurse told us we were finally 10 centimeters dilated! She said we had about 30 minutes of pushing ahead of us.
At 4:45 I started pushing, and by 5:00 the nurse had me stop pushing b/c baby was about to come out, and the doctor was stuck in traffic! The doctor walked in at about 5:10, I pushed twice, and at 5:12 pm out came Jacob :) 7 pounds and 19.5 inches of him, and he was sooo beautiful (and perfect)!!!

It was more than an amazing experience, and we are so happy to be a family of 4 now. Congrats to all the new grandparents!

Waiting...

Amazed.......

Halloween!

Can you believe that October has already come and gone?!! I can't believe that today is November 1st!! Where does time go?
Well we had a pretty busy Halloween - on Thursday Will had his class Halloween party, and on Thursday night was the Maier's 4th Annual Costume/Pumpkin Carving Party. Then on Halloween night we headed over to our church for some Trunk or Treat.
For those of you who aren't familiar with Trunk or Treat, the church has people sign up to donate the back of their trunks. You decorate the back, and the church gives you the candy to pass out to the kids. I think this is a great idea, b/c everyone is in one location, and the area where the trunks are is blocked off. It's amazing to see what kinds of cool things people do with their trunks.

Halloween was tons of fun this year!

Baby Jacob Update-
Only 9 days left...HOWEVER!, at my appointment this past Tuesday, we found out that I am almost 3 centimeters dilated, 70% effaced, and baby is engaged (head is in the birth canal). I am actually a bit shocked that he isn't here yet - Will was 10 days early, and I was hoping that Jacob would follow the same pattern of being early...but that's ok!!
My doctor told me that b/c I started dilating so early, he would not let me go past my due date. So with that being said, he told me that if I am definitely past 3 centimeters at my appointment on Wednesday, I can pick a day that week to be induced. So we decided that if that's the case, let's just get induced on Wednesday. My body has already started the birthing process, and Jacob is fully developed and ready to go, so bring on the baby!
Love,
Sher
